Luckily, you can set a default page in Chrome in a few ways, and the steps work the same for both Mac and Windows.
How to Set the Homepage in Chrome
If you want to set your homepage, you can introduce a Home button on Chrome, which works the same as it would on any website. It will be displayed right next to the Refresh button next to the address bar. Clicking it will bring you back to a specified website, or the default New Tab screen.
Here’s how to set this up:
Click the three dots on the top right corner of the browser and pick Settings. On the left menu, click Appearance. Toggle the Show Home button to On. Underneath, pick the second option and type in the URL you want to set as the homepage.
Once you make this change, it’ll be saved automatically, and the Home button will appear at the top of the browser. Now, when you click the Home button, you’ll be redirected to the URL you just entered.
How to Set Homepage in Chrome on Startup
There’s also the option to change the page that you see when you first launch the browser. Instead of the search bar, the startup window can be your email inbox, Facebook, or even several tabs that you use regularly.
As before, click the three dots on the top-right corner of the browser and pick Settings. Click On start-up in the menu on the left. You can choose to Continue where you left off, which will open the tabs you were using before you quit the browser. The other option is to Open a specific page or set of pages. With the latter, you can either input the pages manually with Add a new page, or pick Use current pages, to set your current tabs to always open on startup.
The next time you open Chrome, these changes will be reflected.
What About Changing the New Tab Page on Chrome?
You may have already noticed that every new tab you open is set to the Google Search screen as well. Unfortunately, there is no built-in way to change that. To change the default URL for a new tab, you’d have to install a third-party extension, such as New Tab Redirect.
Hopefully, this new information can help you streamline your work and create just a better browsing environment.
