Snapchat Allows You to Change Your Username
Snapchat has allowed users to change their usernames since February 2022. Prior to that, you could only change your Snapchat display name, but never your username.
If you wanted to have a different username on Snapchat, your only option was to delete your account entirely and start a new one. But that’s no longer the case. All Snapchat users on both the iOS and Android apps can change their usernames on the app.
It’s one of the improvements made to the Snapchat experience in 2022, like the addition of Bitmoji Reactions to enhance your chats with friends.
What to Know Before Changing Your Snapchat Username
You can only change your Snapchat username once a year, so think carefully about the name you choose. And once you change your Snapchat username, you may never be able to use your old one again.
You also won’t be able to pick a username that has been used by another Snapchat user in the past. That also means that you can’t choose a username that may be registered but inactive.
Finally, changing the username won’t impact anything else on your Snapchat account, including your Contacts, Snap Code, Snap Score, and Memories.
How to Change Your Snapchat Username
Changing your Snapchat username is a simple process. Follow the simple steps below to get started:
Open the Snapchat app on your phone. Tap your Bitmoji in the top-left corner of the screen. Next, tap the settings icon in the top-right corner. Under My Account, tap Username. Now tap the text box or Change Username below it. Snapchat might show you a pop-up message cautioning you that you can only change your username once a year. Tap Continue. Enter your desired username in the text box. If your username of choice is available, tap the Next button.
That’s it. Your new username for the next year is saved.
Snapchat Gives Users What They Want
For years, it seemed that Snapchat wasn’t interested in letting users change their usernames, but fortunately, it eventually relented. It isn’t necessary to change your Snapchat annually, but it might be fun to switch things up.
