This time around, the objective of this latest Overtime Challenge is almost deceptively simple: collect metal in either one of two specific locations. Of course, there are a few complications that players need to keep in mind, like the fact that the challenge is broken into multiple stages and that metal is the rarest material players can collect in Fortnite. There’s also the matter of knowing where the unmarked landmarks known as Hydro 16 and Compact Cars are on the map.

Full Metal-Collecting Challenge Breakdown
This Overtime Challenge is broken into three different stages, each tasking players with collecting an increasing amount of metal in order to earn an increasing amount of XP, adding up to a total of 90,000 XP for completing the whole thing. Here are the exact numbers for each stage:
Stage 1 - Collect 250 metal for 10,000 XP Stage 2 - Collect 750 metal for 25,000 XP Stage 3 - Collect 1,500 metal for 55,000 XP
Now, since players can only hold up to 999 metal at a time, it’s likely that players won’t be able to complete each stage of this challenge in a single match, though dropping or using the metal they’ve already harvested should enable them to collect more per match. Another good idea would be for players focusing on this challenge to head into Team Rumble, since the speed of material harvesting is increased in this mode.
Hydro 16 And Compact Cars Locations
All this helpful information won’t be of much use if players don’t know where they need to go. Luckily, they won’t have to stray far from the usual points of interest to find the locations in question. Hydro 16 is actually pretty hard to miss, as it’s the power station and dam on the western edge of the large lake in the map’s southern region. There, players can harvest metal from the machinery inside the station, as well from the cars and street lamps on top of the dam.
As for Compact Cars, players can find the lot full of crushed cars near the river west of Dirty Docks. It goes without saying that a landmark that’s pretty much entirely made of metal will have plenty of it to collect, so players will likely want to focus on that one specifically. As with any challenge of this nature, however, players will likely come across others trying to get to the metal first, so they’ll have to get to there fast and be ready for a fight or two.
Fortnite is free-to-play on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
